Athena Appoints New Technical Director

Floreat Athena FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Carolina Morace and Ms Nicola Williams as coaching Directors of the Club for the National Premier League season 2016.

Carolina Morace will be recently inducted into the Italian Hall of Fame as a decorated footballer and coach. Born in Venice Italy, Morace debuted for the Italian women's national team in 1978, at the age of 14. During her career, she made 153 appearances for Italy, scoring 105 goals. While playing in the Italian national women's league, she scored more than 550 goals. She took part in six European Championships as well as the inaugural FIFA Women's World Cup China 1991 where she scored a unbeatable World Record four goals at Wembley Stadium.
After retiring as a player, Carolina began a managing career with Lazio. Carolina was also the first woman to coach a professional men's team - Viterbese in Serie C.

She then managed the Italian Women's National team from 2000 to 2005, and then the Canadian National women's team from 2009 to 2011.
Under her guidance, Canada won the 2010 CONCACAF Women's championship and improved their FIFA ranking from 11th to 6th in the World.
Carolina also travels the world for FIFA as an Ambassador and Instructor to provide Coaching Instruction to coaches around the world.

Nicola Williams also has an impressive playing and coaching success. Nicola was a WA state team and NTC player and played for Western Waves in the inaugural women's national league. Nicola holds a FFA "A" coaching license and is currently in the process of obtaining her Pro Diploma license. Ms Williams was the inaugural Perth Glory W-league coach and for the U13 Australian Girls Team. She then assisted the U14, U17 and U21 Young Matildas Australian Teams over a period of 8 years.
In meeting Carolina she has spent time oversees coaching at the Juventus Academy in Roma and understanding the methodology to develop talented players.

President Stacy Pilkadaris said, “The Club are truly honoured to have secured the services of Ms Morace and Ms Williams. We are keen to continue to be a leading, innovative NPL Club and hope this appointment will attract more children, both male and female to join our Club to play the world game. This is a significant appointment in the Club’s history and demonstrates our commitment to improving and developing youngsters at Athena. The appointment is one that the Club is extremely proud of.”

The appointment is effective immediately and the Club will be conducting trials for the NPL U12-U16s under the watchful eye of Ms Morace and Ms Williams over the next 6 weeks. Times and dates will be published on the Clubs website along with dates for upcoming Spring and Summer Clinics
