Athena Begins Hunt for New Coach in 2020

Defending Night Series Champion Floreat Athena Football Club has kicked-off its pre-season campaign with a hard fought 2-1 win over Rockingham City Football Club.

An undermanned Athena was able to steal the match thanks to some magic by newcomer Noah Shamaki with two late goals, the first a sublime finish from within the box to square the ledger at 1-1.

The recruit was the hero again for Athena in the dying seconds of the match after putting another goal in the back of the net on the stroke of full time, sending Athena’s fans at E and D Litis Stadium into a frenzy.

The match however signalled the end of coaching duo Garrett McDulling and Tim Cash who tendered their resignations. The club would like to honour their effort and passion during their 18-months at Athena and wish them every success in their coaching future.

A caretaker coach will be announced this week as the club prepares the search for a new coaching team to spearhead the club in its 69th year.

Meanwhile Floreat Athena would like to remind fans and supporters club memberships for 2020 are now on sale and can be purchased here.

The club’s next Night Series fixture is on January 31 against Bayswater City at Frank Drago Reserve.

Kick-off is at 6:30pm.
